Movinground
People everywhere are looking for transformation in their lives.
What is missing in the breakthroughs, epiphanies and aha’s of
many “once in a lifetime” seminars is a regular practice
of integration. Learning from successful organizations like the Body
and Soul Conferences, and the regular retreat schedules of the Omega
Institute, Esalen Institute and the Open Center in New York, it is
easy to see a demand for dozens of presenters in a huge range of fields.
Our mission is to create a community based center in Los Angeles where
the body’s intelligence is the primary teacher. A center
offering regular classes, workshops, trainings and special events
for adults as well as children. Movinground is a concept being
realized in our weekly Fumbling Towards Ecstasy classes, in the profound
connections established through the inquiry into movement each individual
participant is willing to make. There is a deep desire and need for
a holistically grounded center where it is not the discipline imposed
on the body that is taught, but a partnership with the body that is
invited.
Movinground will offer a support system. A center where workshops
and trainings are based as well as the ongoing classes and groups
that support new awareness becoming daily practices. We envision a
center that considers what we create for the future as an investment
in healing our culture. By bringing family together, bridging
gaps in our community and primarily by strengthening our relationships
with ourselves.
Our Concept
We are looking to create two large movement spaces ideally with separate
roofs. One that can be subdivided into two smaller spaces, with high
open ceilings, and ample storage for a variety of modalities in the
multi use rooms. Dance, theater, writing, painting, voice and other
aspects of personal expression will be explored. We invite teachers
of Continuum, Movement Expression, Five Rhythms and Soul Motion. A
range of classes will be offered for children, parents with children,
after school classes and parent/infant classes with childcare facilities
provided for adult only classes. Vision Painting, Point Zero Painting
and Painting Experience, Artists Way, Authentic Movement, Shamanic
Circles; Groups for Men, Women and Children, Body Wisdom and Body
Tales, The Max, massage trainings, singing circles, dream groups,
drum circles, intuitive painting, vocal awareness, moving mediation,
Improvisational Being, the list goes on.
All of this can happen here and hasn’t because there is no center
for this wealth of possibilities. Movinground is a place where
all forms of creative expression are woven into the fabric of community.
About Us
Fumbling Towards Ecstasy was created by Jo Cobbett and Michael Molin-Skelton.
You can find Michael at http://www.spiritweaves.com.
Since 1995 Fumbling Towards Ecstasy have been based in the Culver
City area, bringing people in from all over southwest California.
People drive regularly up from San Diego and down from Santa Barbara,
arranging their flights to come to classes before leaving or upon
their return. A community has developed with true connections.
Marriages have happened, babies born, alliances formed, as a result
of meetings and connections here. We know that there is a population
waiting to support this structure through testimonials and expressions
of gratitude from all walks of life.
We began with 5 people in our first Sunday morning class and have
grown to hundreds of regular participants from diverse backgrounds.
Our Sunday classes have attracted all ages as well, which stimulates
us to create this structure.
We Need Your Help
We are looking for investors and contributors, other teachers willing
to commit to opening the doors of our own building. Where?
The Culver City area is central to the 10 and 405 fwys, bringing people
together from four directions. The area is safe and attracting
the development of many wonderful large warehouse spaces. We
invite people with management experience, who share a desire to see
the workshops and classes of your dreams in a beautiful space to join
us.
Please call or write us with your suggestions and offerings. We have
a questionaire which may help to form expression. Please take the
time to fill it out for us. Your ideas are truly welcomed.
Sincerely, Jo Cobbett
